Empowering Aspiring Teachers From Glastonbury Public Schools

The Diverse Voices in Education Scholarship (DVIE) was established in order to encourage Glastonbury High School (GHS) students who are part of ethnic/racial groups that are underrepresented in public schools to consider becoming educators.

In Connecticut public schools and throughout the United States, educators are overwhelmingly white. As our student population has become increasingly diverse, the makeup of educators has not evolved to keep up with these demographic changes.

This scholarship is a grass-roots effort, founded and initially funded by Glastonbury Public Schools (GPS) educators, to help bring students of diverse backgrounds into the education profession.

Our Mission, Vision & Goals

DVIE will create opportunities, growth and impact for students from diverse backgrounds in the field of education.

DVIE will increase access for students of diverse backgrounds into teacher preparation programs, allowing them to successfully enter the field of education.

DVIE will reach out to GHS students of diverse backgrounds, encourage them to consider the field of education, provide resources in their decision-making process and encourage administrators to actively recruit them to teach at Glastonbury Public Schools.
